Records in Context - Examples

This web site provides two examples for how the description of an archival collection can be accomplished using RiC. It shows the potential of RiC, when Agents, Events and Instantiations supplement the core description of the Records. The Relations provided by RiC give a clear picture on how the Entities interact. To explore the examples, use the indexes on the Browse page. Each item in the index is hyperlinked to its related entry. Otherwise, you can use the general search:

Explanation

The examples use only certain Entities and Relations that were deemed relevant for the description of these Records. Other archival holdings might be described using different Entities and Relations. This version does not serve as a perfect example for the implementation of RiC because:

1. The original descriptions were done in the years before 2007. For these examples the descriptions were adapted as best as possible, but they are rather an example for the transition from ISAD(G) to ICA-RiC. Very few changes and no additions to the original description was made. As a result, most Agents have no metadata and the Relations have no additional description.

2. For this example an existing software system with its data model and metadata elements was used. The software can however show all entities and relations between them. Software developed with RiC in mind would likely represent these descriptions in a more powerful, purposeful and user-friendly manner.

The examples are each accompanied by a graphic representation of the Entities and Relations. To simplify the graphics, they do not include all Relations covered in the description. The provenance relations were simplified and no Relation to Date or Location is included.
